Nan is a licensed psychologist with 38 years of counseling and clinical experience. She believes that the healing factor in counseling is the relationship between the therapist and the client. Within that supportive, professional relationship, trust builds and allows the client to explore difficult aspects of their current and/or past experience. The client and the therapist process the material together, with the client gradually gaining “traction” on the problem. The goal is both understanding and behavior change.
Nan’s style is warm, attentive and often humorous. She works with individual adults and couples on issues that include stress, anxiety, depression, health issues, loss and grief. Couples’ work often focuses on communication and on understanding themselves and their partners through the lens of the Enneagram.
Nan also provides clinical supervision and consultation. Her supervisory style is collegial and collaborative, often with a focus on prevention of professional burn-out. Consultation interests include resolution of workplace stress/conflict and team building.
Nan was employed most recently as the Clinical Director of a local non-profit counseling service, where she worked for 20 years. She has also worked as a psychologist in a community mental health center, and in a variety of other professional settings. Her doctorate in counseling psychology is from Northwestern University. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and is recognized as a Health Service Provider in Psychology.
Nan welcomes inquiries about counseling/psychotherapy or supervision/consultation.
